Yuval Shay-El יובל שי-אל
Yuval Shay-El (b. 1963) is an Israeli multidisciplinary creator, composer, pianist, trumpet player and physicist, active in both Classical and Jazz music genres. His compositions were performed by prestigious Israeli ensembles, including Musica-Nova Consort, the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra Chamber Series, Meitar Ensemble, Kanazawa-Admony Piano Duo, Tel-Aviv Renaissance Voices, and Modalius Ensemble, and were broadcast on leading Israeli radio stations. He owns a master’s degree in music composition from Boston University and a PhD in meteorology from Tel-Aviv University. Among his composition teachers were Harry Nadel, Lukas Foss and Charles Fussell. Some of his prominent compositions include "Symphony No. 1" for symphonic orchestra in four movements (2007), "String Quartet No. 2" in four movements (2009) and "Kohelet" for mixed choir (2015). As a jazz musician, he has performed for over 30 years on both trumpet and piano. "Symphony in Jazz Mode" (2014), his latest album with his band, Zoom Out Band, presents Shay-El's original jazz compositions structured in large-scale classical symphony form.
